Robert Edward Auctions Unveils Historic Baseball Memorabilia and Rare Collectibles

Robert Edward Auctions (REA) is kicking off the new year with a bang, presenting an extraordinary Encore event that showcases a remarkable collection spanning over 180 years of sports history. With nearly 3,700 lots on offer, this auction not only boasts an extensive range of items but also features some of the oldest and most unique sports memorabilia, particularly in the realm of baseball.

One standout piece in this auction is a signed receipt from Alexander Cartwright, a renowned pioneer in the world of baseball, dating all the way back to 1842. Not only does this artifact impress with its age, but it also holds direct significance to a key figure in the early history of the sport.

Another extraordinary item from the 19th century that will be auctioned is the incredibly rare 1888 N403 Yum Yum Tobacco John Clarkson “Throwing” card. Graded EX 5, this card is the sole PSA-graded example featuring the Hall of Fame pitcher and outfielder, making it a highly sought-after rarity among collectors.

Adding to the allure of this collection is a personal scorecard once owned by Harry Wright, a prominent figure in early baseball history. This one-of-a-kind artifact dates back to a June 22, 1883 game between the Philadelphia Phillies, managed by Wright himself, and the Providence Grays. The scorecard, scored in both pencil and blue ink, bears Wright’s signature and has been graded a 9 by PSA.

Kicking off the auction is an SGC 1.5 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle card, which stands alongside a vast array of Mantle memorabilia. In addition, the auction includes over 250 autographed items, many of which come from iconic baseball figures of the past.

REA President Brian Dwyer expressed his excitement for this Encore Auction, highlighting its strength and the wide selection of signed items and iconic cards in various grades, catering to collectors of all types.

Among the other remarkable pieces presented in REA’s January Auction are a 1914 E145 Cracker Jack #37 Grover Alexander SGC VG 3 card, a 1986 Topps Football #374 Steve Young Rookie SGC GEM MINT 10 card, a Babe Ruth cut signature, a 1938 Lou Gehrig signed postcard, a 1924 Walter Johnson signed album page, and a 1939 Honus Wagner signed Baseball Centennial First-Day Cover. The auction also features a trio of 1954 Topps #128 Hank Aaron rookie cards, a 1957 Topps Football #138 Johnny Unitas Rookie BVG NM-MT 8 card, and early Michael Jordan cards, among others.

The auction’s signed checks section offers collectors the opportunity to own checks signed by legendary baseball players Jackie Robinson, Ty Cobb, and Roberto Clemente. The T206 offerings are vast, with over 720 options, including rare advertising backs and cards featuring rare Carolina Brights backs.

True to REA’s tradition, all items in the Encore Auction have a starting bid of $10. Bidding for this diverse and historic collection is now open on the company’s website and will remain so through January 21, providing collectors and enthusiasts alike with a chance to own a piece of baseball history and rare memorabilia.
