Fanatics/Topps Ushers In A New Era Of Sports Card Releases

Trading card titan, Fanatics/Topps, once a simple bubble-gum and baseball card startup, is changing the game, transforming the humble collectible into a kaleidoscope of captivating images from sports’ finest moments. With upcoming licenses from NBA and NFL, the company is gearing up to send collectors swooning with its diversified and dynamic set of releases. This strategy was made crystal clear at their recent industry conference held in vibrant Atlanta, where future plans for basketball, football, UFC, soccer, and F1 cards were unveiled in a grand display.

Topps Chrome, the coveted basketball collection that took a long sabbatical since the 2009-10 season, is making a triumphant return this summer. Whispers are already echoing in the alleyways of the enthusiast’s world, with Victor Wembayama’s autographed rookie card steering the maelstrom. The company confirm exclusivity on autograph contracts from renowned athletes such as LeBron James, Shaquille O’Neal, and Kevin Durant, wooing collectors and tipping the scales in their favor. However, fans must note that Topps will only gain access to NBA logos and team nicknames post the official license transfer from Panini America in the coming year.

Football enthusiasts also have something to cheer for as Topps steps up its offering with a college-themed focus, given that the NFL license only kicks off in 2026. With releases like Motif, Composite, Collegiate Chrome, and the Bowman series, slated to kick off in the third quarter of 2024, it’s game on!

The world of soccer cards is not left on the sidelines either. The Champions League Dynasty product is set to be a hat trick, with all on-card autographs and match-worn gear, while the addition of a women’s Champions League product is a refreshing curveball. Spotlights also shine on unique 1/1 MLS Debut Patches featured in the Renaissance, Finest, and Chrome collections. Specialized “The Grail” inserts across six different soccer products are planned, with a tantalizing grand prize of an all-expenses-paid trip to the 2024-25 Champions League Final.

Topps has added the UFC license to its illustrious portfolio, reintroducing the highly-rated Finest series and a roster of premium products led by Royal, Knockout, and Gold Label.

The F1 track isn’t left out in the race, as Topps expands its lineup to include Paddock Pass, Topps Chrome Finest, and the Dynasty series. F1 aficionados will relish the Michael Schumacher cut signatures, a jewel in any collector’s crown.

This ambitious game plan from Fanatics/Topps not only demonstrates a sweeping transformation in sports card offerings but also signifies the company’s commitment to create a more enriching and entertaining collecting experience. Card collectors, fasten your seatbelts – this looks set to be quite the ride!
